Captain Dean De Witt and Chef/First Mate Charne De Witt
Dean's childhood on farms laid the foundation for his enduring love for nature. However, it was at age 12, a passion for diving shared with him by his father, that ignited his love for the ocean. From that moment, the waves became his calling. At 18, Dean earned his Dive Master certification, swiftly progressing to become an instructor. Seeking to venture deeper in the oceans, he ventured to Cape Town, where he not only sailed competitively but also embarked on a remarkable journey from Cape Town to St. Helena in the Atlantic, discovering the joys of freediving and spearfishing along the way. The transformative experience led him to obtain certifications as a free diving instructor and a Staff instructor in scuba diving, solidifying his commitment to exploring and preserving the wonders of the ocean.
Charne too, found her love for nature in her South African upbringing. Introduced to diving by Dean, she dove head first into the wonders that the ocean has to offer. Working alongside Dean at a dive resort in Sodwana Bay, she immersed herself in daily dives, cultivating a passion that propelled her towards the path of becoming a Dive Master. Beyond the depths, Charne's upbringing in South Africa, a country with an extremely diverse culinary culture, her culinary enthusiasm blossomed from a young age evolving into a profound love for cooking and baking. Her experimentation with diverse cuisines became a cherished past time.
Together, Dean and Charne, for a dynamic duo, not only as life partners but also as seasoned professionals in the chartering industry since June 2022. Their maritime adventure have taken them across the vast waters of the Caribbean, chartering in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, St. Maarten, St. Barths, Anguilla, and the British Virgin Islands. The duo have crewed as Captain and Chef/First Mate on vessels ranging from 50' to 67', undertaking numerous deliveries and charters. Dean and Charne continue to share their love for the ocean, weaving a tapestry of unforgettable experiences for those who embark on charters with them. As Captain and First Mate/Cook, they seamlessly blend their expertise in diving, sailing, and culinary arts, crafting a unique adventurous life on the seas.
Chef/ First Mate Katie
Katie’s love for yachting started in her early teens where she spent family holidays sailing the Ionian in Greece.
Her sailing career began where she worked as a hostess in Lefkada, then moving across to seek new challenges in the windy Saronic Gulf and Cyclades. From there she moved to the British Virgin Islands, during her downtime between seasons she studied at Culinary school in Devon and on the Isle of Wight, developing and refining her love for cookery.
Katie began cheffing professionally in 2016 in the Caribbean where she found a love for the culture and flavours of the area.
She has been working in the Caribbean ever since, spending her downtime diving, kiteboarding and exploring all of natures little secrets that the BVI has to offer.
She is also a qualified Day Skipper and Rescue Diver so you’ll be sure to be in safe and competent hands across all elements of the yacht.
Whatever your requests or requirements Katie is more than happy to tailor her menu for her guests every need, using only the freshest and most vibrant local ingredients Katie’s dishes will guarantee to wow!

One week on Wanderlust was more than a great vacation. The two of you made it exceptional! We wouldn't change anything about this trip. The itinerary was great, providing stellar opportunities for snorkeling, hobie cat sailing, and island exploring. In addition to being a great captain, Francois was attentive to our requests and spent so much time making sure our grandchildren experienced the water sports. Every meal and charcuterie board created by Katie was a gourmet delight-beautifully served and beyond delicious. ! She went so far beyond our expectations making sure the different dietary requests were incorporated in every meal. This was truly a vacation of a life time. None of us will ever forget Katie's Thanksgiving feast and how welcome and homey she always made us feel. We will be making our best attempt at recreating her amazing food as part of our holiday traditions from now on. Francois' wine pairings were perfect and so were his hand-crefted cocktails! Katie and Francois, Where do we even begin? This trip was a lifelong bucket list item for Michael and now our favorite trip for all of us! From the moment we stepped aboard Wanderlust to the moment we left it was perfection. You curated the perfect days-the flow of the trip was ideal. And not having to make a single decision beyond paddle boarding :) made it a true vacation. Kate, your meals were 5-star!! I mean tuna sushi after Eric reeled a tuna in off the back of Wanderlust-you can't make this up! We loved being surprised by your gourmet, beautiful creations-truly an artist. Throwing the most beautiful birthday celebration, you made 40(ish) the best birthday yet!! You two and this experience, all 6 of us together has changed us. As someone who's usually at the ready with an entire arsenal of words to express my gratitude what can I say that hasn't been said a thousand times before? Suffice it to say that there amazing experiences in one's short time here in the earthly realm and then there are peak moments that simply redefine what it's like to achieve those stellar, pinnacle heights of wonder, joy, balance, exhilaration and complete relaxation all at the same time. Those extraordinary and total bliss moments when mind, body, and spirt combine to create what I like to call a "well being attack!" Nirvana! Every moment on board Wanderlust had us thinking "it can't get better than this! and then the universe says "Hold my Beer." I'll leave with thousands of wonderous memories etched forever on my heart and the deepest gratitude for all these two lovely lights did to ensure we'd have the best experience in the BVI, Ever. A few highlights-the 5 star cuisine and magic created daily by chef Katie. Somebody needs to award this amazing young woman a Michelin Star. (I did figure out her secret ingredient after hours of close observation... it is love combined with sprinkles of magic. Shhh Francois has somehow managed to accumulate quite the impressive list of talents and expertise in his 24 years on earth-Chief among them the ability to observe and deliver exactly what his lucky charter guests require seconds before they're even aware. Look up the word conscientious in the dictionary and there will be his image. Thanks to his observant, patient, intuitive demeanor I was able to put my aprehensions aside and experience one of the best dives ever after a 30 yr hiatus. Both Katie and Francois possess skills above and beyond the usual checklist of the standard resume. Skills that can't be taught in any school, but exist only on an entirely different level. Suffice it to say-those attributes left me feeling nothing but extraordinary gratitude and blessed beyond measure!
